Junior Great Books! Sign Up Now!!!

Junior Great Books® “JGB” will be starting in the new year! Sign up now!
JGB is a national program that encourages students in 2nd through 5th grades to read, think critically and participate in small group facilitated discussions of the material, lead by a parent volunteer.   By participating in Shared Inquiry discussion, JGB students learn to read for meaning and support their own interpretation of the text.  Junior Great Books is for the student who wishes to come prepared, discuss opinions and participate in a small group setting.  Students will read, discuss and participate in fun activities that engage understanding and interpretation of the story.  Groups meet during recess/lunch.

This year Junior Great Books will meet at lunch/recess time on Fridays for 6 weeks, beginning January 11th and ending on Friday February 15th.  Each week students will read a short story and meet with a parent volunteer to discuss it and have fun.   Groups will be organized at grade level.

If your 2nd thru 5th grade child is interested, please sign up and pay online NO LATER than January 6th at the latest.

Books must be ordered so please no late requests to register.   The cost for the book of stories is $19.00 and the book is yours to keep.  Questions?  Contact  Miriam Baskies at baskies@me.com or cell 9178335813.

Cheetah Chasers!
Come out and help us cheer on our Cheetah Chasers at recess! Our new recess running program has been a big hit so far with the students and we could use some more help! Volunteers are needed every Tuesday from 11:40-12:40 in the back field to help scan runners using an app, guide children on the course, and hand out charms. The program will run until December 18th, then resume again in the spring.

For those who would like to volunteer to be a scanner, please download the app and attend one of the very brief training sessions prior to volunteering. If you're interested, please check out the sign up genius below. If you have any questions, email Donna Moffett at paperwings81@gmail.com

Library Volunteers Needed!!
Library Volunteers needed to help with organizing/shelving books and clerical/miscellaneous tasks.  A volunteer is preferred in the afternoon for one hour but you are welcome anytime you have available (please use the comment section to specify the time of arrival).  We ask that volunteers commit to at least one hour a month.  This is a great way to get involved and allows our wonderful Librarians more time to focus on teaching.
Lunch Recess Volunteer Sign up & Training
Central Elementary PTA is looking for volunteers to help in the lunchroom and outside on the playground for grades 1-2 and 3-5. Help is needed in the lunchroom assisting children and also outside to organize games, keep an eye out and be someone for a child to talk to if needed.

To sign up, it is necessary that volunteers have attended a training session already (in school years 2016-2017 or 2017-2018) or sign up to volunteer after the next training session date and go to that training session. You will not be permitted to volunteer until you have attended a training session.  Training was held on Friday, October 26 at 9 am.  Thank you to those that attended.

It is suggested that interested volunteers sign up for multiple time slots so that they are volunteering on a regular basis and become a familiar face to the students and someone with whom the students feel safe and comfortable. We strongly encourage signing up on a weekly or bi-weekly basis!  Sign Up Here!!

If you have any questions, please contact Erin Simonson at (610)348-4828 or erin_cohen@hotmail.com.
